Job Description

Purpose:

Conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions. Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods and techniques. Contribute to project science in area of expertise. Develop productive collaborations and communications with other groups across science disciplines. We are looking for a Sr. Scientist with a molecular biology and microbiology background to join our peptide display hit generation team. This role is responsible for leading and managing multiple technology development projects related to phage display of peptides for therapeutic discovery, including generation of phage-display peptide libraries, screening against therapeutic targets, and identifying pharmaceutically relevant hits. This role will also utilize our proprietary peptide microarray platform to aid in accelerating hit identification from phage display campaigns

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of in-house peptide phage-display workflows that leverage our proprietary peptide microarray platform to accelerate hit identification. Includes design and generation of phage-display libraries, screening of peptide libraries against therapeutic targets, next-generation sequencing library preparation, and large-scale data analysis.
  • Investigate state-of-the-art technologies for modifying peptide phage-display libraries using chemical modifications, non-canonical amino acid incorporation, etc.
  • Utilize our proprietary data analysis tools to efficiently analyze data from next-generation sequencing of phage libraries and other large-scale datasets.
  • Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities.
  • Highly autonomous and productive in performing laboratory research or method development, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.
  • Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
  • May initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.
  • A primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
  • Demonstrates high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab and/or pilot plant.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.

  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
  • Training in molecular biology and microbiology methods for the generation and screening of large-scale molecular libraries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in peptide phage-display, including library design and generation, library screening, and data analysis
  • Experience with generating next-generation sequencing libraries and analysis of resulting datasets
  • Skills in coding for data science (e.g. Python) and/or a willingness to learn
  • Experience with automation and/or molecular barcoding for scaling molecular biology/microbiology workflows
