Summary

A Staff Scientist position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Murugesan Palaniappan in the Department of Pathology & Immunology and the Center for Drug Discovery (CDD) at Baylor College of Medicine. The vision of the CDD is to bridge the gap between academic research and pharmaceutical discovery and provide researchers with an economically viable entry into preclinical drug discovery as well as enable the study and validation of protein targets and disease mechanisms. The Palaniappan lab studies the molecular and pathological mechanisms of human diseases particularly breast cancer with the goal of finding effective novel therapies using DNA-encoded library screens. We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and hard-working researcher to join our team wherethey will be able to independently make important discoveries while working in a collaborative, dynamic environment.

Job Duties
  • Participate in early stage drug discovery efforts in collaboration with biological and chemical scientists throughout the academic community, with a goal of bringing new treatments to patients with unmet medical needs.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary lead-finding project teams by engaging in the following activities: cell culture, transfections, molecular cloning, protein production and purification, organoid cultures, xenografts and PDX animal models.
  • Participate in collaboration with other biological scientists throughout the academic community.
  • Will work & communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Performother job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be able to work independently and consult the literature to guide scientific efforts.
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Basic Science/Health Science, Molecular and Cell Biology or Cancer Biology, or related field.
  • Demonstrated competence and experience and publications in internationally recognized journals.
  • Technical expertise in standard basic molecular and cellular techniques, including cell culture, transfections molecular cloning and in vivo animal models is a necessity.
  • Expertise in biochemistry, recombinant protein production/purification, biochemical assay methodologies, molecular biology and/or murine modeling of cancer.
  • Experience with protein production and purification.
  • Experience with animal studies is preferred.
  • Must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, dedicated to science and problem solving, with organizational skills and effective at working independently and leading projects, while also collaborating and assisting the team in its collective research goals.
  • Organized with close attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
