Departmental Overview

The Department of Neuroscience, which was launched in July 2024, will advance the understanding of brain, mind, and behavior through research, education and training. Our faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers study how the brain functions in health and disease, how it generates behavior and thought, and how it computes. We investigate the nervous system on levels ranging from molecules and cells, to neural circuits and systems, to behavior and cognition, to neural computation. We also develop neurotechnology and explore the impacts of neuroscience on society.

Position Summary

Reporting to the lab Principal Investigator, the SRA interacts with students, postdoctoral fellows and other individuals who are part of the lab. Responsible for primarily performing behavioral testing, genotyping and husbandry. Responsibility for a limited amount of data analysis, and maintenance of laboratory areas, compliance documentation, and databases.

This successful candidate will serve as a key staff member responsible for behavioral testing pipeline.

Responsibilities

• Perform behavioral tests, monitor test results, and enter metadata into a database; Assessment of mouse behavior including management of planning testing and updating daily training plans given appropriate progress.
• Manage colony independently; responsible for mouse handling, genotyping, perfusion, anesthesia, cage cleaning, transfer of mice to/from testing rigs.
• Determine whether a subject is correct genotype and age for testing; Plan testing schedule to achieve goals in a timeline.
• Maintain spaces, compliance documents, and databases.

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with behavioral testing, and breeding.
• Familiarity with standard office software.
• Familiarity with multiple operating systems (Linux, Unix, OSX, Windows).
• Familiarity with statistics, including the use of standard statistical hypothesis-testing software such as R, Matlab, Graphpad Prism.
• Organized, detail-oriented, good record-keeping.
• Good interpersonal skills and communication ability.
• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent years' experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

• BA or BS in psychology or neuroscience.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.52 (Step 1) - $31.64 (Step 9).
