The Associate Scientist in the in vivo immunology team will support the project team in spearheading GSKs innovation of novel viral vaccines and platform programs. You will have the opportunity to work on the in vivo efforts on multiple viral vaccine programs and platforms within GSK and with external partners in a collaborative and matrix team. You will assist in writing in vivo study protocols, coordinate and initiate preclinical studies, conduct and analyze experimental results pertaining to the understanding of cellular mediated immune response and humoral immune response from novel vaccine candidates, formulations, and RNA platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
This role will provide you with the opportunity to lead key activities and to progress your career based on performance. The responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct dosing and tissue harvest from animal studies
- Understand and execute in vivo study protocols, ensuring adherence to GSK and regulatory requirements for compliance with IACUC guidelines
- Perform experiments characterizing cell-mediated immune response for preclinical immunogenicity or challenge studies using flow cytometry, ELISPOT assays and others.
- Analyze experimental data and document them in detail using an electronic notebook
- Write detailed protocols, procedures and work instructions to support immunology assays.
- Contribute to the writing of technical sections of internal and external reports and contribute to scientific papers and patents
- Help develop new experimental techniques based on project needs
- Report results in team meetings, cross-function and cross-department meetings
- Help with Lab management tasks including the ordering of materials, participation in operational meetings, routine equipment maintenance
The successful applicant may spend 2-3 months within the first year in Rockville, MD to support and guarantee a smooth transition of methods and know-how to the new laboratories in Cambridge, MA
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Bachelors degree in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related scientific field with 2+ years of lab experience.
- Experience working with aseptic techniques
- Experience with laboratory notebook keeping
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following competencies, it would be a plus:
- MS degree
- One or more years of experience in conducting in vivo animal studies within the fields of vaccines, infectious diseases, or immunology.
- One or more years of experience in small rodent handling and drug administration, in-study blood sampling, necropsy, tissue harvest, and processing.
- One or more years of experience in designing, executing, and analyzing cell-mediated immune response readouts using conventional or spectral flow cytometry.
- A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups within the organization.
- Experience with multiple immune-response related readout methods such as ELISA, ELISPOT, Luminex, and qPCR methodologies.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Suite
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Extremely organized with experience in documentation of study protocols and reports.
