The Process Safety Engineer serves as the Site Resource on Process Safety related issues in our DuPont Electronic Materials business located in Marlborough, MA . This role operates as a focal point for everyone at the site on key issues relating to Process Safety requirements and guidelines. This includes ensuring compliance with Company Process Safety requirements including Process Safety Standards, PHA requirements, and a general knowledge of RAGAGEP standards. Works closely with Site Leadership to provide proper interpretation and guidance of the process safety mandatory requirements and recommended actions. Works closely with the Corporate Reactive Chemicals SME to ensure reactive chemical questions are resolved and necessary data generated.
Responsibilities
Utilizes a generalized knowledge of RAGAGEP Standards and the DuPont Process Safety Guidelines and Standards to define and document any plant gaps in the plant design and operating practices versus mandatory requirements.
Plans, prepares for, and executes Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for manufacturing areas in compliance with the site cyclical schedule and project schedules and in accordance with DuPont Standards.
Manages PHA documentation and output per DuPont Standards, including writing and formalizing the PHA Report, facilitating Management Review & Signoff, and tracking of recommendations & actions to completion.
Works with the Production and MT Leaders to gain resources and support for making changes that will close identified PHA gaps. Participates and assists with defining priority and a detailed plan for closure of each identified gap.
Provides overall management of the site PSM priorities and gap closure efforts in such a way as to achieve long term compliance with the Company Process Safety Requirements.
Works with end users of asphyxiant gases site-wide in Production and R&D to assess hazards and compliance related to the DuPont Standard on Asphyxiant Gases.
Provides Process Safety advice on plant changes and projects, participates in project meetings, and performs additional review and analysis as needed to address Process Safety concerns.
Reviews and assesses completeness of Process Technology (Process Safety Information) and ensures documents and drawings are up-to-date and maintained per the DuPont Standards and Guidelines.
SME for review of Process Safety related Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
Supports the development of training on Process Safety for the plant.
Assists in developing and achieving area or plant Process Safety goals.
As required participates in investigations of Process Safety incidents.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree or higher in a science or engineering degree
5+ years of relevant experience; ideally including 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing and/or engineering related role
Experience in Process Safety Management
Ability to navigate and interpret regulatory and industry codes & standard such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Effective collaboration, writing, and communication/interpersonal skills
Excellent technical and quantitative analysis skills and exceptional attention to detail
A minimum requirement for this U.S. - based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident or qualifying Asylee / Refugee).
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge and/or experience with programs following OSHAs process safety management (PSM) regulation (29 CFR 1910.119)
Experience participating in, scribing, and/or leading PHAs and/or LOPAs (using HAZOP, what-if, checklists, etc.)
Experience as a Run Plant/Production/Process Engineer
Experience with flammable and toxic chemistry
Experience implementing process control systems (PCS)
Project management experience and leading teams cross-functionally
Batch chemical processing experience
Experience with global teams
