Senior Scientist Translational Immunology and Autoimmune Diseases

We are seeking a passionate Senior Scientist to investigate immune-mediated mechanisms in autoimmune diseases affecting mucosal and barrier tissues. Based within our Ophthalmology group, you will focus on translational immunology and does not require prior expertise in ocular biology. You will be involved in the selection and refinement of clinically relevant in vitro and in vivo models to study tissue-specific inflammation, and will evaluate therapeutic strategies through both mechanistic and translational studies. As a Senior Scientist, a typical day might include the following:

• Designing, planning, and completing in vivo studies using rodent models to investigate immune-related inflammatory conditions, with a focus on clinically relevant and reproducible models

• Performing specialized methods for tissue-specific analyses, including local injections, imaging, and tissue dissection for downstream analyses of disease pathology and therapeutic interventions

• Evaluating inflammatory markers and immune activation in target tissues using biochemical and molecular assays, alongside advanced microscopy techniques

• Analyzing and interpreting experimental data using biological and statistical software such as Prism, Excel, etc.

• Collaborating with interdisciplinary scientists (immunology, protein science, gene therapy) to advance therapeutic candidates and refine disease models.

• Delivering impactful presentations to colleagues across the research and development organization, including senior leadership

• Mentoring and training junior researchers on in vivo techniques and best practices as needed.

• Staying up-to-date with the latest research and technology in immunology and inflammatory diseases, and incorporating new ideas to improve our models and assays.

• You are passionate about hands-on bench work and enjoy working with animal models using ground breaking techniques.

• You are highly motivated, ambitious, and eager to tackle complex scientific problems in autoimmune and tissue-specific immunology

To be considered for this role, you must have at least a Ph.D. in immunology or a related field, with approximately 0-2 years of relevant research experience or a BS/MS and 8-10+ years of relevant experience . Must have a demonstrated record of experimental rigor and problem-solving. Must have extensive hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo rodent models. Proficiency in laboratory techniques for molecular and biochemical assays (RT-PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, Western blot) and microscopy for tissue analysis is required. Working knowledge of immunology and inflammation biology as it relates to disease mechanisms is advantageous. Experience in ocular procedures is a plus but not essential.
