The Role:

EVERY is currently seeking a Fermentation Research Associate with a passion for lab work to join our Strain Screening team located in Daly City, CA. As a Fermentation Research Associate, you will have a key role in preparing and executing precision fermentation experiments with 2L bioreactors and the opportunity to participate in activities directly related to different aspects of process development and industrialization of animal-free animal proteins. You will contribute to furthering process development of the manufacturing of transformative ingredients responsible for changing the existing food system.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Power the future of sustainable food by running precision fermentation experiments that help us unlock next-generation animal-free proteins
  • Operate 2L bioreactors to screen microbial strains and identify the top performers that will scale into real-world food applications
  • Prepare media and solutions using aseptic techniques, foundational work that fuels every successful fermentation run
  • Assemble, disassemble, and sterilize fermentation vessels and labware, keeping our lab safe, efficient, and ready for discovery
  • Monitor active fermentations, collect samples, and run key assays - your hands-on work directly shapes the data behind critical decisions
  • Troubleshoot fermentation challenges with a sharp eye for detail and a curious, scientific mindset, helping us iterate faster and smarter
  • Collaborate daily with teams across strain engineering, analytics, and process development to keep innovation moving and aligned
  • Keep the engine running: manage inventory, organize materials, and ensure the lab is ready for whatever comes next
  • Analyze fermentation data to identify trends and performance signals that inform what we scale and what we don't
  • Be part of a mission-driven team reshaping the food system - your day-to-day work will directly impact our ability to replace animal protein at scale

What you bring:

  • Associate's degree with 2+ years of fermentation/lab experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, bioprocessing, chemical engineering, or related field
  • OR equivalent hands-on fermentation experience with demonstrable knowledge of techniques and equipment
  • Comfortable with manual labor and repetitive workflows
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Experience with lab safety protocols and procedures
  • This job can be physically demanding, must have the ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs. without issue
  • Flexible working hours. Typically 9AM - 5PM but may require occasional after-hours or weekend time.

Nice-to-have (but not required):

  • Experience using DasGip, BioFlo, or similar systems
  • Familiarity with JMP, VBScript, or Excel for data analysis
  • Background in sterile technique, microscopy, or inventory management
  • Prior work with strain screening or scale-up R&D environments

Pay Range: $69,000 - $78,000

At EVERY pay ranges are subject to change and assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
