Job Title: Metallurgical Engineer
Location: Mossville, IL
Details: 12-month contract with ongoing need, opportunity for direct hire
Pay Rate: $29.00 - 33.00/hr.
Job Summary: This position requires the engineer to work within the Failure Analysis & Met Lab groups and contribute to the immediate AMT team as well as internal and external process partners. The role is essential for replacing and backfilling to regain additional bandwidth for the existing team.
Responsibilities and Typical Day in the Role:
Part or Project Identification: Identify parts or projects that require analysis and testing.
Material Management: Manage materials needed for testing and analysis, ensuring they are available and properly stored.
Print Interpretation: Interpret technical prints and drawings to understand the specifications and requirements for testing.
Test Plan Development: Develop detailed test plans for both nondestructive and destructive evaluations.
Nondestructive Evaluation: Conduct nondestructive evaluations to assess the integrity of materials and components without causing damage.
Destructive Evaluation & Testing: Perform destructive testing to determine the mechanical properties and failure modes of materials.
Documentation: Document all findings, test results, and analysis in detailed reports.
Communication: Communicate findings and recommendations to team members, internal quality engineers, external suppliers, and customers.
Collaboration: Work closely with laboratory staff, internal quality engineers, external suppliers, and customers to ensure accurate and timely analysis.
Interaction with Team: Interact with several team members including the Failure Analysis team, the NDE management team, the AMT Laboratory team, the Chemical team, the Caterpillar Decatur quality team, external suppliers, and customers.
Work Environment: A steady mix of shop, lab, and office/desk work included for most of the documentation and communication.
Candidate Requirements:
Years of Experience Required: Preferred candidates would include 3+ years of previous experience.
Degrees or Certifications Required: Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering.
