Job Description

AbbVie is seeking an experienced and highly motivated in vivo electrophysiologist to join our Circuit Biology team within Discovery Psychiatry. This pivotal role involves facilitating electrophysiological insights of circuit dysfunction in psychiatric disorders and treatment. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of psychiatry drug discovery research, contributing to target validation and compound profiling studies within a dynamic and collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conceive, execute, and communicate original technical ideas and novel multi-disciplinary research that achieves project and area goals
  • Drive internal in vivo electrophysiology efforts by developing and optimizing recording strategies from disease-relevant circuits
  • Develop and maintain in vivo electrophysiology technology, methodology, and utility in psychiatric drug discovery
  • Generate, through lab-based activities, multi-unit electrophysiology, local field potential and/or EEG data to support projects
  • Ensure alignment of electrophysiology efforts with the broader goals of cross-functional teams
  • Present findings to internal teams and external collaborators or conferences
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making in psychiatry drug discovery
  • Provide scientific guidance and training to junior scientists and research associates
  • Serve as a lead scientist on projects and contribute scientific insights across multiple other project teams

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in neuroscience, or related field, with typically 12+ (BS), 10+ (MS), or 4+ (PhD) years of experience
  • Extensive experience in unanesthetized, in vivo multi-unit electrophysiology
  • Extensive experience using large-scale neural recording with single cell resolution with strong analytical skills
  • Experience with local field potentials and EEG recordings and analyses
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and execution of hypothesis-driven studies related to synaptic and circuit function
  • Ability to process and interpret large datasets using appropriate software tools
  • Strong ability to work in cross-functional teams and effectively communicate scientific findings

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous industry experience within early discovery, preferably within psychiatry research
  • Expertise in AI/ML methodology for signal analysis
  • Recognized and sought out as an expert in field or discipline
  • Track record of impactful publications
