Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to perform laboratory tests on water and wastewater samples to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and monitoring requirements. To accomplish this task, the analyst will perform chemical and bacteriological exams on wastewater samples taken from industry, source water, potable waters, sewage, and samples from various stages of the treatment process. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Analyze samples of source water, treated water, untreated wastewater, treated wastewater, and industrial wastewater using various analytical methods. Record test data and prepare reports, summaries, or charts that interpret test results and QA/QC. Discuss test results and analyses with Director and Senior Laboratory Analyst as needed. Follow testing procedures as defined in Standard Methods or by the EPA. Assist in chemical and bacteriological studies for the purpose of evaluating plant processes. Calibrate equipment (meters, probes, instruments) at required frequencies for testing. Examine and analyze material for presence and concentration of contaminants, such as bacteria, using variety of microscopes. Calculate amount of pollutant in water/wastewater samples using chemical and mathematical formulas. Assist Senior Laboratory Analyst in maintaining stock of all analytical chemicals and glassware. Maintain bacteriological certification and DMR-QA certification. Assist in maintaining and revising SOPs as needed. Ability to troubleshoot instruments and procedures. Adhere to task (analysis, cleaning) schedule as prepared by Senior Laboratory Analyst. Maintain a positive working environment. Other duties as assigned by the Director. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor s Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required. Field of Study: Major coursework in: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related science preferred. Relevant experience in laboratory work and/or water/wastewater treatment plant operations or quality control. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn specialized software Must have the ability to obtain Laboratory Certifications as required by regulating entities. Attendance and completion of approved schools sponsored by regulatory agencies or professional organizations for laboratory analysts Valid Tennessee Driver s License.
