Office of Environmental Assessment
The mission of the Office of Environmental Assessment is to maintain and enhance the environment of the state in order to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of Louisiana. This program provides an efficient means to develop, implement and enforce regulations, assess, inventory, monitor and analyze releases, and pursue efforts to prevent and to remediate contamination of the environment. The OEA also strives to develop plans and projects to assist stakeholders via financial assistance in environmental restoration and protection actions. A bachelors degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A masters degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field. This posting will be use to fill positions in the Remediation Division and Water Planning Division.

Remediation duties: Incumbent serves as team leader on remediation sites. Performs detailed and thorough reviews of site investigation/assessment, corrective action, monitoring work plans and reports and then responds in a proper manner and in accordance with RECAP and other applicable regulations. Corresponds directly with facility representatives in order to request, review and approve these work plans and reports. Uses EDMS to review historic records and other applicable files. Meets the timelines for review established by an Environmental Supervisor or Environmental Manager and enters work products in TEMPO. Provides billing information to the Environmental project Specialists, Contract staff or other support staff for cost recovery. Completes site visits to inspect remedial activities including installation of soil borings, installation or P&A of monitoring wells, sampling activities, source removal activities, installation of treatment technologies, etc. Depending on the status of site or facility, conducts routine semi-annual or annual inspection and completes Field Inspection Form (FIF) or facility inspection form upon completion of site visit.

Water Planning duties: Incumbents in these positions are responsible for implementation of all survey activities that support the development of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL), Use Attainability Analyses (UAA), Non-Point Source Projects, and Planning and Assessment Projects. Personnel in this section are charged with planning, executing, and completing all hydrological and water quality surveys across the state coordinating with other survey team members and using equipment efficiently and successfully. Activities include collecting a wide variety of data in an efficient and technically sound manner, as well as, properly maintaining and utilizing state-of-the-art scientific sampling equipment and state survey vehicles (cars, trucks, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and boats). Incumbents will be trained and use Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to insure consistent data collection and quality.

This announcement will be used to fill multiple Environmental Scientist vacancies within the Office of Environmental Assessment. All vacancies are domiciled in Baton Rouge.

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) for this position, as follows:
Environmental Scientist 1- $20.91 per hour or $1672.80 biweekly
Environmental Scientist 2- $22.38 per hour or $1789.80 biweekly
Environmental Scientist 3- $25.62 per hour or $2049.20 biweekly
