Job Summary:
The Analytical Development Scientist supports method development and evaluation for raw materials (as needed), in-process, and finished peptide products using a range of analytical techniques and lab equipment. This role involves preparing test solutions, calibrating instruments, troubleshooting analytical issues and documenting results to ensure data accuracy and method reliability. The AD scientist also collaborates with QC and Development teams to address technical challenges and improve method transferability. This role contributes directly to PolyPeptide's commitment to delivering exceptional quality and on-time delivery to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uses applicable basic to complex test and measurement equipment and instruments to establish/evaluate methods on raw materials, in-process and finished products.
- Calibrates test and lab equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Prepares all solutions, buffers and mobile phases required for appropriate testing.
- Identifies material, product and/or methodology issues and follows up
- Based upon existing background and experience, may make recommendations for solutions or corrections to identified problems and/or issues.
- Documents all tests and measurements in provided forms and notebooks.
- Supports the Development and QC department on corrective measures and/or actions to correct analytical issues or problems (e.g. (U)HPLC, LC-MS etc.).
- Performs basic to moderately complex troubleshooting on results and test equipment.
- Is responsible for maintaining good housekeeping and cleanliness standards.
- Creates reports on methods for better understanding and for transferability
- May performs other additional duties as required for this position.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Required Education:
- Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry
- Preferred Education:
- Ph.D. is preferred but not a must.
- Experience:
- 4+ years of professional experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry.
Skills & Competencies
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge on peptide and small protein APIs.
- Soft Skills:
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, etc.);
- Ability to work as part of a team and also independently with minimal to no supervision;
- Ability to rapidly change focus during times of shifting or changing priorities.;
- Apply technical writing skills with attention to details, specifically the lexicology and grammatology of written English text as applied to technical writing;
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This role may be based in an office, laboratory, or GMP manufacturing environment, depending on the position. Office-based employees primarily work at a computer in a standard office setting, while lab and manufacturing roles may require work in controlled environments with appropriate gowning and PPE.
Physical demands may include:
- Prolonged sitting or standing, depending on the role.
- Frequent movement between work areas and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Performing repetitive tasks, including pipetting, weighing, and data entry.
- Use of hands for data entry, equipment operation, or laboratory tasks.
- Exposure to chemicals, equipment noise, or temperature-controlled environments in lab or production settings.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime hours to meet production or testing deadlines.
