Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting the facility in testing finished products, packaging, and raw materials to ensure compliance with specifications. The role involves conducting internal quality and food safety audits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Maintaining equipment in the milk receiving and laboratories, performing necessary daily checks within the Milk Receiving laboratory, and cross-training on procedures within the main chemistry lab are also integral to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the receipt, handling, and testing of finished products, packaging, and raw material samples.
  • Perform component testing on incoming milk, oil, corn syrup, and execute cream release testing and review.
  • Conduct ID testing on incoming raw materials for release, usage, and review.
  • Prepare cleaning and zero solutions for FT2, and perform daily calibrations on Charm SL equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory environment by following proper policies, procedures, and techniques.
  • Record temperatures of laboratory refrigerators and incubators daily.
  • Order supplies and track inventory of laboratory consumables.
  • Revise procedures, protocols, and process flows as necessary.
  • Accurately record, review, and verify results using Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).
  • Perform tasks according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
  • Execute the Internal Control Plan (ICP) for laboratory equipment.
  • Enter laboratory results into SAP and other data management systems.
  • Consolidate, trend, and report laboratory data to operational teams.
  • Complete all necessary transactions in SAP.
  • Communicate out-of-norm results promptly to ensure deviations are resolved.
  • Manage receipt, storage, and inventory of all laboratory consumables.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly quality and food safety internal audits of the facility.
  • Work safely and report any unsafe situations or conditions.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams.
  • Obtain and maintain appendix N certification and complete annual split samples successfully.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in life science discipline.
  • Experience working within a laboratory setting, which can be from education.
  • Understanding of lab environment and GMP guidelines.
  • Ability to follow quality assurance checks, inspections, and lab tests.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Desire and ability to work third shift.
  • Understanding of biology, chemistry, and laboratory quality control.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance, Batch Record Review, Food Science, and USDA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, QC, GMP, Quality Control, Wet Chemistry, Titration, and Chemical Testing.
Work Environment

The employee will work with two other team members in the lab on the third shift. The role involves spending time on the manufacturing floor to collect samples and conduct bulk testing on materials such as milk, sugar, and oil. Sensory testing and instrument calibration are also required, along with incoming material checks/testing. The schedule is 6 PM to 6 AM on a 2-2-3 rotation, with initial training on the first shift (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
