As a Research Engineer in the HRG Engineering Research group, you will leverage advanced expertise in your field, alongside a basic understanding of related areas, to tackle challenging and wide-ranging problems. This will involve design, development, and optimization of engineering processes,. Your knack for data analysis and drawing insightful conclusions will be key in overcoming diverse challenges to support engineering projects related to R&D and our operating companies.This position is based on-site in Indianapolis, IN. Qualified candidates must currently reside within 75 miles of the Indianapolis area or be willing to relocate.

Essential Functions

  • Lead Product Development: Spearhead product development projects, ensuring seamless scale-up and successful commercialization..
  • Process Improvement & Optimization: Continuously enhance and refine processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness..
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize statistical analysis to interpret complex data sets, leading to impactful improvements in processes..
  • Advanced Software Application: Use ChemCAD, AutoCAD or similar software for sophisticated process design and troubleshooting, ensuring precision and compliance in our operations.
  • Strategic Proposal Development: Craft compelling and detailed proposals for capital projects, including robust ROI calculations, to secure necessary investments.
  • Partnership Building: Foster strong, trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers, becoming an essential partner in their success.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree A Bachelor's degree with 6 years of relevant hands-on experience in product development and process engineering
  • Preferred PhD or a PhD with 2-5 years of experience in a scientific/engineering discipline

Experience Qualifications

  • Required 5+ years A Bachelor's degree with 6 years of relevant hands-on experience in product development and process engineering
  • Preferred 3+ years PhD with 2-5 years of experience in a scientific/engineering discipline

Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of ChemCAD, AutoCAD or similar software, and process simulation techniques. Your technical expertise will drive innovation. (High proficiency)
  • Statistical Expertise: Skilled in statistical development, including Design of Experiments (DoE) and data interpretation, to identify opportunities for advancement. (Medium proficiency)
  • Process Improvement Experience: Proven track record in process improvement and optimization, ensuring excellence and efficiency. (Low proficiency)
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing equipment and layout, essential for successful process implementation.
  • Safety & Compliance: Deep understanding of process safety and hazard management, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Sustainable Solutions: Ability to develop closed-loop processes that eliminate waste, meet environmental compliance, and are cost-effective.
  • Cost Structure Development: Expertise in developing cost structures for engineering projects requiring significant capital investment (over $3M).

  • Standing, sitting in office, lab, and field work
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Working in extreme weather conditions
  • Traveling up to 30% (to include driving and air travel)
