Description

The Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Radiation Measurements Laboratory (RML) at the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), a group within the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Analytical Laboratories (AL), is seeking a Radiation Measurement Laboratory Technician, to perform radiation measurements of radioactive material supporting ATR. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at the Advanced Test Reactor with every Friday off.

Responsibilities:

Performing gamma-ray spectroscopy using high-purity germanium detectors:

Quality assurance measurements,

Routine sample handling, tracking, measurement, and reporting,

Handling of radioactive material,

Tracking, measurement, and reporting samples,

Maintaining sensitive radiation detection equipment:

Handling liquid nitrogen for detector cooling,

Handling of lead for radiation shielding,

Ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies,

Replacement of detector hardware,

Working with operations personnel to collect samples from the Advanced Test Reactor for experiments and environmental monitoring,

Operating specialized radiation measurement equipment in designated contamination areas (requires precise motor control),

Serving in material stewardship and accountancy roles,

Frequently communicating with internal "customers" and support personnel to plan, execute and report on work performed in the laboratory,

Participating in appropriate training, safety meetings, group meetings, and other compliance related activities,

Continually improving measurement capabilities and procedures.

These tasks may be routine in nature or specialized and are performed under a graded level of general supervision commensurate with individual expertise.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Understanding of conduct of operations and practical knowledge of basic engineering theory.

Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Knowledge of the tools and systems of the position.

Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Level 1: Graduation from high school or equivalency.

Level 2: Graduation from high school or equivalency and 2+ years' experience.

Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness obtain and maintain an "L"clearance if necessary.

Must meet the expectations of all employees at MFC. Demonstrated strong work ethic, integrity, customer service mentality, and technical skills for the position.

Expected to complete clearance paperwork, qualification and/or certification in a timely manner.

The required coursework will contain numerous exams to demonstrate technical content knowledge.

Job Information:

The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($25.79/hour - $42.54/hour)/ Level 2 ($30.17/hour - $49.78/hour). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
