Job Title: Senior Chemist
Job Description
This position is responsible for performing quality control laboratory testing on incoming, in-process, and finished products, as well as assisting in laboratory operations. The focus is on ensuring compliance with regulatory activities and company procedures related to the laboratory department.
Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct analytical testing per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements, including potency, material identification, particulate, and dissolution.
- Purchase analytical chemistry equipment and consumables to support laboratory operations.
- Maintain daily use, maintenance, and cleaning logs for laboratory areas and equipment, and perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure accuracy of results.
- Prepare Certificates of Analysis for review.
- Perform data entry, trending, and record organization.
- Draft and review procedures, change controls, risk assessments, deviations, and CAPA.
- Design and conduct test method and equipment validations.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, as well as company standards and specifications.
- Conduct method transfer to the facility, multi-task on various projects, create SOPs and protocols, write change controls and deviations, and run assays.
- Oversee one lab analyst, providing guidance and support in skill and career development.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is preferred or equivalent experience in the field.
- Five years of experience operating analytical laboratory equipment including UPLC, FTIR, UV-Vis, CCIT, and Dissolution.
- Experience in a cGMP-compliant facility.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with method transfer and method validation activities.
- Good documentation and organizational skills to record lab procedures and results.
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills to assess the strengths and weaknesses of an assay.
- Management experience (training others is acceptable).
- General knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemistry and mathematics principles.
- Familiarity with compendial testing and regulatory guidance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- BS degree in Chemistry (preferred) or Biology with 5 years of experience in a GMP regulated environment.
- Preferably 2 years of method transfer experience.
- Experience with USP regulations is a bonus.
- Ability to multi-task and manage projects, deadlines, and tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and confidently.
- Leadership skills in delegating tasks and developing associates' skills.
Work Environment
The work environment is team-oriented with a focus on collaboration and building a testing facility from the ground up. The lab is GMP and FDA regulated, aiming to become a third-party testing company. The atmosphere is similar to a start-up, offering endless growth opportunities. The General Manager fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion, encouraging authenticity and creativity. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, with flexibility for earlier or later starts, subject to prior communication.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $52.88/hr.
