Duties and Responsibilities
Design and assist with a rigorous field collection program to evaluate metals concentrations in seaweeds; use standard methods to prepare samples for metals and elemental analyses; assist with microwave digestions and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer analyses; measure carbon and nitrogen concentrations with an elemental analyzer; ensure proper QA/QC protocols for all analyses are followed; compile data and conduct statistical analyses using univariate and multivariate methods; assist with writing research reports and publications; assist with presentations regarding research results for the public
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. equivalent degree in biology or marine biology. Must have basic knowledge of algal physiology and ecology. 5+ years of experience with approaches and technologies used in heavy metals and other contaminants in algal tissues. Skills in applying basic laboratory techniques to answer research questions;
Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and to work independently; Demonstrated ability to write scientific reports;
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in conducting research with tissue analysis for additional metals or other contaminants of coastal waters that could occur in seaweeds.
