A Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for Providing information to the Clinical Providers that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performing assays that are identified by CLIA as waived, moderate, and high-complexity tests. High Complexity Tests include all tests performed in Transfusion Medicine and all Microscopic work in Hematology and Microbiology. Accurately processing clinical specimen, performing analysis, and documenting assay results. Immediate performance of time-critical tests of samples from Code Blue, Stroke Code or Trauma. Completing processes using the laboratory's policies and procedures, in strict accordance with the Quality Assurance Program and CAP regulations. Identifying and notifying critical results (Potentially life-threatening lab results) to the ordering provider in accordance to the Critical Call policy. Performing CAP regulated proficiency testing with strict adherence to regulations. Training and mentoring new hires and students Performing competency assessments in every section of the laboratory where he/she is performing patient testing. Trouble shooting sample-related problems or laboratory analyzer downtimes Supervise laboratory assistants and other non-licensed personnel Identifying potential problems that may adversely affect test performance, analysis or reporting of assay results. Documenting all corrective actions taken when assay systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Actively contribute to the laboratory safety operations Accountable for customer satisfaction Working cooperatively in a team environment supporting senior laboratory and management staff. Working independently within an assigned workbench and working with the whole laboratory team in achieving goals and metrics set forth by the Quality Assurance Program of the laboratory. Participating in laboratory Performance Improvement initiatives

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills: Baccalaureate Degree or degree acceptable by California Laboratory Field Services for the application of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Limited License. CDPH Licensure: MTA (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) Licensed to perform work in all areas of the Clinical Lab; Limited licenses used in the clinical lab may be hired to work only in their specialty areas: Chemistry:MTC (Chemist), Blood Bank: MTD (Immunohematologist), Microbiology: MTE (Clinical Microbiologist), PHM (Public Health Microbiologist) Hematology MTQ (Hematology) Molecular Genetics MTP (Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist)

Required Certification/Registration:

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification: One year equivalent full time in a clinical laboratory. ASCP.

Position Pay Range: $52.28-$75.96/hour
