Primary Responsibilities:
Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Lab Technician to join its Formulation development team located at the Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The successful candidate for this job will become a key member of the Axalta research and development team.
Role Summary:
Axalta is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Lab Technician to join our Raw Materials Technology team at the Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA. This role supports the development, evaluation, and qualification of raw materials used in Axaltas coatings formulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to laboratory safety and environmental responsibility, while maintaining high standards of accuracy, organization, and collaboration in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and test coating formulations using various raw materials under the guidance of chemists and scientists.
- Conduct physical and chemical testing of raw materials and finished coatings (e.g., viscosity, pH, color, stability).
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, test results, and observations in laboratory notebooks and digital systems.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation in accordance with safety and quality standards.
- Assist in the evaluation and qualification of new raw materials and suppliers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, procurement, and process technology.
- Ensure compliance with Axaltas safety, environmental, and quality protocols.
Basic Qualifications :
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Chemistry , Chemical Engineering , Materials Science , or a related field is required.
- 13 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in coatings, paints, or chemical manufacturing is preferred.
- Commitment to making safety and quality a priority in all aspects of work.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and standard testing methods.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory data management systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
