Chemist

Position Summary

This position is in the Feed, Fertilizer, and Food Laboratories. This position will analyze livestock feed, pet food samples, and fertilizer samples for guaranteed constituents at the proper levels or if suspected adulteration. Samples are analyzed by LC, LC/MS, ICP/MS, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, and wet chemistry techniques.

This employee has further responsible for the analysis of other units' samples (e.g. meat and dairy samples and pesticide residue samples) as is necessary or assigned. Sample work assignments or areas of emphasis may be adjusted by management staff to meet the operational needs of the laboratory, including maximizing work efficiency during the year and/or cross-training of staff to support other units.

Salary Information

The classification of this position is Chemist, which is in schedule-range 15-04 with a starting pay of $25.50-$27.75 per hour. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

• Training and/or experience with the principles and practices of chemistry (analytical and/or organic) and modern chemistry laboratory methods, materials and equipment.
• Training and/or experience with Chromatography (gas, liquid, etc.)
• Experience with following a written procedure (i.e SOP's, FDA methods/procedures).

In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:

• Experience analyzing feed products.
• Experience preparing standards to specific concentrations.
• Experience preparing sample reports for review.
• Training and/or experience with Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (LCMS), and/or Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICPMS)
