Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Research Engineer in the Polyol Technical Service Group, at our Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia . This position is responsible for providing technical support to sales teams and customers to ensure optimal performance of polyol products in various polyurethane applications. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to summarize and interpret technical data, prepare detailed reports and presentation, collaborate with senior technical and R D personnel, and support product implementation. Your additional responsibilities as Research Engineer will include: Provide technical support to customers in the form of product recommendations and formulation assistance. Conduct laboratory experiments, product testing, and performance evaluations in support of application development and troubleshooting. Generate, document, and interpret experimental data in technical reports and presentations. Create and maintain marketing materials for product lines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, manufacturing, R D, and product stewardship to address customer needs and support business objectives. Travel to conferences, trade shows, and customer sites to support product users and keep aware of industry trends. Skills/ Requirements BS/BA in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science 2+ years of technical industry experience in polymer or material science discipline. Experience with urethane or urethane raw material chemistry preferred. Familiarity with laboratory information management system (LIMS) and data analysis software. Experience executing experimental or testing programs within supervisory guidelines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to details and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Ability to interact well with all levels of the organization and maintain strong relationships within team members, peers and internal customers. Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
