Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for research and development of new products or processes, quality control, maintenance of environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

The Process Technology Improvement in Silicones (PTIS) group is seeking an experienced scientist to work in the area of organ modified silicones and related industrial products. The selected applicant will provide production with manufacturing and technical support and collaborate with research and applied technology groups of the business lines to support their research projects. This will include self-directed research and development followed by complete thorough reports on the projects assigned. The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in chemistry or a closely related discipline, with relevant years of experience in synthetic and analytical chemistry experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Support production with troubleshooting and process improvements, the design of chemical synthesis reactions, lead product transfers, and the interpretation of analytical data for evaluation of product quality, and support business lines in development of new chemistry. Knowledge of products from business lines OU, OI, CAD, and Care Solutions, as well as all Evonik Plants on site.

  • Trained to run QC analysis on products to keep up with the pace of work including viscosity measurements, GC measurements, and some hand titrations.

  • Developed understanding on plant processes that will be useful for projects and trouble shooting

Lab Documentation

  • Document experiments in a laboratory notebook, submit monthly reports, present findings at meetings on behalf of the group, and write in depth reports for miss investigations and project works.

  • Ensure strictly confidential informations are properly secured especially any hard copies of recipe and batch log

Troubleshooting

  • Begin leading troubleshooting efforts for all business lines in both SiC and HPE.

  • Gather all data and communicate the results through written and oral reports.

  • Knowledgeable in interpreting production batch log and understanding impact of process parameters to product quality.

  • Run analytical techniques such as HPLC, GPC, & GC to facilitate troubleshooting and process improvements. This includes analysis, organization, and interpretation of results.

  • Ability to evaluate if the data from the QC Lab or PTIS analytical equipment makes sense or will need to run additional analysis.

Organization

  • Responsible for placing orders of those chemicals and supplies needed based on the inventory of chemicals.

  • Responsible for investigating ways to reduce spending without affecting the efficiency of the work

Environmental Health and Safety

  • Accepts responsibility for their own health and safety and those around them.

  • Performs assigned duties safely and protective of the environment and ensures the quality of our products.

  • Follows operating procedures to ensure a safe and environmentally protective workplace.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors with > 5 years of experience, Masters with 2 or more years of experience, or PhD with 0 or more years of experience.

  • Background in chemical synthesis with experience in polymer or silicone chemistry preferred.

  • Experience in analytical techniques and HPLC, GPC, and GC operation preferred.

  • Chemical process improvement is beneficial.

  • Knowledge in organic chemistry, with proficient laboratory bench skills and lab practices (maintaining lab notebook, chemical handling & disposal etc.).

  • Strong leadership, oral and written communication, and presentation skills
