Lead Analytical Lab Technician - Night Shift
We are seeking an experienced Analytical Lead Technician on Night Shift to oversee laboratory operations. This role combines hands-on analytical work with shift leadership, ensuring efficient testing, data accuracy, and safety compliance during the night shift. The ideal candidate shows strong initiative and is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and confident leading others while managing complex workflows in a fast-paced lab environment.
Responsibilities will include:
- Operate and oversee analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, PSD, BET, Titration, XRD, KF, moisture analyzer, TGA or others as required.
- Able to handle various acids for sample preparation.
- Lead night shift activities, prioritizing sample workflow and ensuring testing deadlines are met.
- Provide guidance and support to night shift technicians, ensuring proper lab practices and adherence to SOPs.
- Perform and validate analytical tests with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and escalate unresolved issues to day-shift leads or maintenance staff.
- Maintain accurate records of sample preparation, analysis, and results in lab notebooks or LIMS.
- Communicate any concerns, anomalies, or process deviations through proper shift handoff reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, or turnaround time and share with day-shift leadership.
- Ensure the lab remains clean, organized, and compliant with EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) protocols.
- Monitor sample queue and coordinate with day shift to ensure seamless transitions and ongoing throughput
- Maintains honest and open communications, a good working environment and culture
- Perform standard duties as required including lab organization, inventory, safety and process audits, and special projects
- Ability to provide feedback directly to supervisor or lab manager
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific field with 4+ years of testing laboratory experience
- 3+ years of experience in analytical testing with increasing responsibility.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, especially in night shift environments.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written (for reports and handoffs) and verbal.
- Familiarity with data review, instrument calibration, and quality control standards.
- Comfortable working with chemicals, vacuum equipment, and handling hazardous materials safely.
- Experience in high-throughput labs supporting production or 24/7 operations
- Proficiency with LIMS, Excel, and lab documentation systems.
- Excellent critical thinking and time management
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Self-motivated; able to take problems and drive them to completion using company resources
- Experience with relevant test methods such as ICP-OES, auto-titration material property testing, particle size analysis, acid digestions, etc
- Knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and IATF standard requirements
- Knowledge of standard industry practices for quality control laboratories
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles
- Experience with sample prep and analysis, chemical handling and laboratory hazards.
- Demonstrates ability to perform basic chemistry math and calculations.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaboration skills
- Excellent attitude: understands priorities change with company needs and willing to work to ensure deadlines are met. Ability to execute with calm and collaborative urgency.
- Ability to regularly lift 35 lbs.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work hands on the lab, including standing and operating equipment at a lab bench.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: office, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites.
- Exposures encountered: hazardous materials, electrical hazards.
- Essential physical requirements: working hands-on in a research lab setting.
- Travel required as needed, less than 10%.
