If you are a Materials Engineer or Metallurgy professional with experience in welding and weld operations looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an opening for you! Based in our Chanhassen, MN location, you will work on an applied engineering team which provides laboratory materials testing support across the organization. You will perform hands on laboratory work driving and developing destructive and nondestructive tests on a variety of parts and materials to support design, production, and supplier quality functions. You will use niche equipment and techniques to analyze both full assemblies and sub-components, as well as report results to stakeholders. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Performing nondestructive and destructive tests of moderate complexity including visual inspections, microscopic examinations, electron microscopy with elemental detection and diffraction, digital radiography and computed tomography, x-ray fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy, calorimetry & rheology, diffusible hydrogen, hardness, tensile.
  • Investigating weld quality by understanding and characterizing metallurgical and chemical materials properties and weld processes with an understanding of mechanical and corrosion failure modes.
  • Testing and analyzing a variety of parts/materials including electronic components, metals, and plastics.
  • Collaborating with team members in specifying appropriate tests and interpreting results.
  • Communicating results to collaborators via technical reporting and presentations
  • Supporting teammates in failure analysis, product testing and metrology activities.
  • Learning, developing, and applying new techniques.

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science from an engineering school.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • ABET accredited degree and/or in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Experience with materials and/or metallurgical testing
  • Understanding of the fundamental theory of materials science and/or metallurgy
  • Experience and understanding of welding theory and testing
  • Current American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Current ASNT-NDT Certifications

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The salary range for this role is $71,000-$96,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
