About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Catalyst Scientist to support the development of next-generation catalytic materials. This team member will play a key role in catalyst formulation, synthesis, testing, and characterization. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to design experiments, analyze data, and develop innovative solutions for catalytic applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and synthesize catalyst materials, including active phases and supports, using various wet chemistry and solid-state synthesis techniques.
Develop and execute test protocols for catalyst evaluation using fixed-bed reactor systems or other relevant setups.
Perform catalyst characterization using techniques such as:
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and other specialty analytical equipment to achieve catalyst understanding.
Temperature-Programmed Reduction/Oxidation (TPR/TPO)
Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis (BET)
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
Conduct Design of Experiments (DoE) to optimize synthesis and performance parameters.
Analyze experimental data using tools such as Excel, Python, JMP, or similar.
Maintain accurate and detailed lab notebooks and data records.
Collaborate with other scientists and engineers on catalyst development, lab safety and process improvement.
Ownership of equipment relevant to job duties.
Present findings and recommendations in team meetings and technical reports.
Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
- Strong foundation in metal oxide chemistry, including structure-property relationships, reaction mechanisms, surface and bulk transport mechanism
- Hands-on experience with catalyst synthesis and characterization techniques.
- Skilled in critical review of scientific literature and translating insights into new experimental approaches.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and independence in a laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE) and process optimization strategies.
- Proficient in data analysis tools: Microsoft Excel, Python, Origin, or equivalents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of lab safety protocols, chemical handling, and good laboratory practices.
Pay and Benefits
- The salary range for this position is $80,000-$110,000 depending on market, skills, and experience.
