Job Description

As a Quality Laboratory Technician, you will perform inspection and analysis of raw materials and chemical products to ensure they adhere to specifications. Your role involves conducting a range of tests, requiring meticulous attention to detail, and utilizing chemical testing equipment and measuring instruments. You will be responsible for reading, understanding, and executing detailed instructions, performing tests, entering data, and preparing reports to present test results. Collaboration with technicians, engineers, and management to analyze, solve, and rectify issues is vital, as is engaging with computer programs and quality systems. You will be actively involved in the quality management system, using all tools and equipment necessary for manufacturing processes at the Chemical Processing Plant. Adherence to procedures, methods, and guidelines to meet quality, safety, and production goals is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct solids testing, viscosity testing, and pH testing.
  • Operate equipment such as viscometers and micrometers.
  • Perform final inspections, raw material testing, and in-process testing.
  • Maintain records and compile data for company reports.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers to convey and receive information, fostering positive work relationships.
Essential SkilOur Client
  • High school diploma required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control lab technician roles.
  • Experience with basic lab techniques, including viscometer testing, pH testing, and water testing.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems, such as ISO, QS, and TS.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Above-average mechanical skills and good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

Training will be provided with the 1st shift Senior QA Tech for several weeks, before transitioning to the 2nd shift schedule. The 2nd shift hours are Monday through Thursday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The work takes place in a chemical processing facility with an odor of chemicals or solvents throughout. The environment is indoor, clean, and relaxed, featuring basic bench chemistry equipment rather than sophisticated analytical instruments. The laboratory maintains a safe but casual atmosphere, with a laid-back supervisor and senior QA tech who emphasize the importance of quality. A relaxed dress code is enforced, requiring boots, with PPE such as lab coats, gloves, and glasses provided. The team is small, consisting of one other lab tech, one quality manager, and one senior technician.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
