Project Kuiper is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. This Systems Development Engineer role focuses on supporting essential Kuiper shared services and specific design and manufacturing functional domains like Printed Circuit Board and Application Specific Integrated Circuit design. These functions require managed software services, lab environments, infrastructure for their software, and data all in support of satellite research and development. You'll design environments and manage both their physical and cloud infrastructure, which includes operating systems administration across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows, used by the business critical design functions.
The position requires hands-on management of server deployments, system maintenance, and infrastructure improvements while ensuring consistent uptime for engineering teams. Working directly with stakeholders, you'll gather requirements, plan improvements, and implement changes through formal change control processes. Success in this role demands strict adherence to change management procedures to maintain system stability, including proper documentation, stakeholder approval, and scheduled maintenance windows. You'll balance urgent system needs with controlled changes while maintaining both cloud and physical environments supporting satellite development operations.
Key job responsibilities
- Server Administration - Customizing, deploying, and administrating Linux and/or Windows physical and virtual servers in hybrid environments.
- Cloud Engineering - Designing, deploying, and maintaining services and their environments on one or more major cloud service providers.
- Network Administration - Deploying and managing networking resources in support of both cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
- Service Operations - Ensuring required service levels are maintained to customer specification via service and infrastructure instrumentation, monitoring, and reporting. Ensure support, change, and disaster recovery processes are established and followed.
- Solution Design - Working with internal partners and engineering peers on requirements and designing a respective solution in a disciplined and collaborative approach.
- Continuous Improvement - Evaluate current services and their implementation in cooperation with partners and peers to make improvements.
- Automation and Documentation - Create and maintain automation for routine and deterministic workflows along with authoring, contributing, and maintaining high quality documentation for all stages of a services life cycle.

Kuiper Devices & Systems is looking for experienced and dedicated team members to manage the administration, maintenance, and development of services and environments for various Kuiper design and manufacturing functions (e.g. Integrated Circuits, Mechanical Parts, Printed Circuit Board, Machining ) and ServiceNow. The ideal candidate is innovative, has great problem-solving skills, and pride in service quality. You must be very comfortable working with internal partners cross-functionally in support of their business need. You approach activities with automation in mind and reserve manual execution to where automation is not an option.

- 3+ years experience administrating server grade operating systems across contemporary enterprise (RedHat Enterprise Linux, SuSe) and community (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, etc.) Linux distributions.
- 3+ years experience administrating Microsofts Windows Server operating systems.
- 3+ year automating, deploying, and supporting distributed software services and related infrastructure in support of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) principles and practices (Infrastructure as Code, desired state config, pipelines, ..).
- 3+ years programming with contemporary languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Python, Shell, Perl, Power Shell, RUST, Java, Ruby, etc.
- 3+ years experience designing and implementing software/systems solutions in a collaborative approach with peers and stakeholders.
- 3+ years of VMWare vSphere and ESXi administration experience.
- 3+ years of Relational and/or non-relational database administration experience.
- 1+ years of experience with one or more major cloud service providers.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
