Who we are at Osmo:
Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. This foundational understanding of smell's impact has directly informed the development of our latest innovation: Generation.
Generation is a new kind of fragrance house powered by Olfactory Intelligence (OI) to blend AI with world-class perfumery. It will help brands create emotionally resonant scents faster, more accessibly, and with greater creative clarity. Our technology allows us to explore vast scent possibilities, discover novel ingredients, and design fragrances informed by both data and artistry.
Beyond fragrance, Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. Osmo is headquartered in New York, NY, with a new facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.
Osmo is seeking a Fragrance Quality Control (QC) Chemist to join our Performance, Quality & Analytical Team. In this role, you will ensure the integrity and performance of the raw materials that power Generation and Olfactory Intelligence. You'll combine rigorous analytical testing with sensory evaluation to uphold the highest standards of safety, consistency, and olfactive excellence.

Analytical Instrumentation: Operate GC/MS, flash-point testers, moisture analyzers, refractometers, and other small lab equipment.
Sensory Evaluation: Conduct organoleptic assessments of materials-comparing samples against reference standards and documenting nuanced olfactive profiles.
Data Interpretation & Reporting: Analyze GC/MS data and other analytical outputs for both forward formulations and deformulation projects; deliver clear, actionable feedback to R&D and perfumery teams.
Method Development & Validation: Assist in developing, optimizing, and validating QC methods to expand our analytical capabilities.
Collaboration & Troubleshooting: Work closely with Procurement, R&D, and Supply Chain to investigate quality deviations, drive corrective actions, and support ingredient sourcing strategies.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain comprehensive lab notebooks, QC certificates, and SOPs; ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRA, REACH).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Flavors and Fragrances, Cosmetic Science, or related field.
2+ years of hands-on experience in a fragrance, flavor, or fine-chemicals QC/analytical laboratory.
Proficiency in GC/MS operation, data analysis, and flash-point testing.
Trained or highly sensitive nose with a strong familiarity of olfactive families and fragrance structures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey both technical and sensory findings with precision.
Strong organizational aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Ways to Stand Out
Formal perfumery training (e.g., ISIPCA, GIP, Grasse Institute, ESP).
Demonstrated experience in deformulation and fragrance analytical chemistry.
Familiarity with LIMS implementations and QC data management systems.
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing fragrance materials.
A passion for continuous improvement and innovation in QC methodologies.
