About the Job

The Decision Scientist serves on PetSmart’s Data Science Team of highly business-oriented Strategy and Data Science professionals that use Big Data to generate break-through insights to deliver top- and bottom-line growth for the company. The Data Science Team is responsible for understanding and driving customer behavior through a combination of big data, advanced statistics, cutting edge machine learning and experimentation, while also having the software and data engineering skills to bring these models into production so they can have a maximal impact. This position promotes the value of analytics and data among peers and stakeholders and invests significant time learning the business, building trust and understanding the challenges of each function. Specific duties include: 1) Integrate data products into business processes such as: CRM emails, segmentation, and others. 2) Execution, extraction and synthesis of data from databases using Snowflake; Databricks, pySpark and sparkSQL languages. 3) Performing exploratory data analysis, cleansing, massaging, and aggregating sensitive customer data, big data, transactional and survey data. 4) Procurement, contract management and quality control of sensitive and protected data from data vendors, integrating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party customer data into a holistic story to show a clear picture of our customers behavior. 5) Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or personalized analytics solutions (reports, charts, and presentations) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. 6) Guide new analysts in databases, tools, access, data prep techniques and methods of investigations. 7) Use parametric and non-parametric statistical methodologies to answer business questions and communicate findings and methodology to non-technical stakeholders. 8) Defining new KPIs and setting up measurement systems to help business understand workforce capacity and productivity. 9) Apply knowledge of cloud technology for data and analytics solutions (Google Cloud). 10) Write semi-production level code in python and pySpark to automate analyses and reporting. 11) Reports to and work under the guidance of a Senior Decision Scientist. 12) Leverage Big Data and Data Science to answer complex business questions. 13) Work collaboratively and constructively with leaders and team members across the business to execute and deliver against analytical projects.

This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Data Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Management Systems, or related field and two (2) years of related analytical experience. Must also have two (2) years of experience with each of the following: 1) Executing extraction and synthesis of data from databases using Snowflake; Databricks, and sparkSQL languages, and writing semi-production level code in python and pySpark to automate analyses and reporting. 2) Performing exploratory data analysis, cleansing, massaging, and aggregating sensitive customer data, big data, transactional and survey data. 3) Integrating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party customer data into a holistic story to show a clear picture of our customers behavior. 4) Using parametric and non-parametric statistical methodologies to answer business questions and communicate findings and methodology to non-technical stakeholders. 5) Defining new KPIs and setting up measurement systems to help business understand workforce capacity and productivity.
