Summary Statement This position resides in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's Division of Water, Residential Services Section. This Section serves a diverse, state-wide customers base of residential and municipal permittees providing review, inspection, compliance, and enforcement support services for the Division of Water. This position assists in protecting Delaware's water resources with a focus on a soils-based approach to on-site wastewater treatment and disposal system siting, as well as technical support for state-wide drinking water and wastewater permitting and compliance programs. - Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
- Performs statistical analysis of data.
- Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
- Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
- Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
- Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
- Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
- Six months experience in technical report writing.
