The VCU Department ofFamily Medicine and Population Healths research team is recruiting for afull-time research associate. The research associate will participate in allaspects of the research process and contribute to recruitment, data collection,processing, and dissemination along with senior project investigators, projectstaff, and trainees. This position is a key part of the Fuemmeler Lab andthe National Cancer Institute funded cancer health equity center (VA-ACCERT). Dr.Fuemmeler conducts public health research and the VA-ACCERT center he directs aimsto improve dissemination and implementation of evidence-based health promotionand cancer prevention services to individuals and families living inincome-based housing.
Typical Duties
Thegeneral responsibilities of this role are as follows:
- Complete research activities including recruitment, screening, enrollment, and supporting research participants.
- Assist with development of interview guides and other data collections instruments
- Conduct interviews and focus groups either remotely (Zoom, phone, or other platforms) and in person
- Establish standard operating procedures for all research-related activities.
- Meet all regulatory and compliance requirements. Support Institutional Review Board (IRB) activities including initial submissions, continuing amendments, annual and safety reports.
- Keep the Principal Investigator (PI) and leadership informed regarding study operations and progress. Actively identify problems or trends in their development; notify and involve appropriate resources for problemsolving; recommend procedural modifications or operational improvements and direct implementation and evaluation activities.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and publications.
- Be primarily responsible for primary day-to-day administrative duties for the project serving as a central resource for all study-related issues, including managing team-wide meetings.
- Complete other duties assigned by supervisor or PI.Most of our work is done on-site or within the community with potentially somework done remotely.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field
Knowledge of or familiarity with community engaged research approaches
Prior experience working with IRB
Experience or familiarity with electronic health records
Prior experience implementing, developing, and/or leading research programs
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience
At least 2 years of direct research experience
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Comfortable working both independently (self-guiding) and collaboratively as tasks require
Self-motivated, excellent in work planning, time management, organization, and multitasking
Familiarity with data entry skills, including Microsoft Office, REDCap, web/PC-based software
Ability to quickly adapt to situations, problem solve, and respond to changing priorities
Reliable transportation; Ability to travel occasionally for in-person interviews and site visits
Demonstrates flexibility and a collaborative mindset; thrives in team environments and readily adapts to shifting priorities.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
