Employees being promoted to a higher classified position receive the minimum for the position or a pay rate adjustment of 8% whichever is greater.

All regular positions also entitle the employee to several benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement which is largely paid by New Mexico Tech for the employee and dependents.

JOB SUMMARY:

The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) is seeking an experienced economic geologist for our Economic Geology Group, which collects, analyzes, and publishes new information on the economic and mining geology of New Mexico. These datasets promote economic development and sound management of New Mexico's mineral resources. This position provides supervisory, scientific and operational leadership and oversight of projects related to economic geology, petrology, mineralogy, and field mapping and sampling of mineral deposits in New Mexico. Analyze geological data (maps, assay results, geophysical surveys) to assess resource quality and quantity and integrate findings into geological models and maps. Research on ore processes, paragenesis and mineral deposit models will be a key component of the position. Preparation of papers and presentation of work at meetings will be required. The position also includes a service component which could involve, for example, examining mining claims or well logs, drill cuttings and cores, answering questions on mineral resources to industry geologists, researchers and regulatory professionals, and preparing outreach materials for Bureau of Geology use. Seeking external funding through a variety of venues to support research will be a component of this successful applicant's work. Interaction and collaboration with research and academic divisions at NM Tech, including the Earth and Environmental Science and Mineral Engineering departments is anticipated and should be tailored to the expertise and research interests of the applicant and align with the Bureau's mission. This could include advising of graduate students, serving on thesis committees, collaborative research, or teaching. Some outreach to local and regional geological societies is essential.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Economic geology studies. Undertake applied research on economic geology, origin of mineral resources, and mineral-resource assessments, utilizing modern instrumentation and analytical techniques as well as modern sedimentologic, stratigraphic and structural concepts.
