The scientist position should possess experience in manufacturing and GLP environments. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Essential Functions Lead internal GLP studies in the role of Study Director Assist in management of GLP studies Maintain GLP study retains Assist in investigations of laboratory investigations, complaints, corrective actions, and nonconforming materials Perform preliminary testing to facilitate transfer of methods for incoming products Design and conduct studies to evaluate inefficiencies and issues with product testing Collaborate with other departments to implement proper methods for end product testing Perform raw material and finished product sampling, testing, and disposition assuring adequate, appropriate, and complete documentation Perform a variety of physical chemistry and wet lab analyses Prepare a variety of media types and laboratory reagents Isolate and maintain bacterial and fungal cultures Conduct insect, plant, microbial, and other biological assays in the laboratory and in vivo efficacy tests in the growth chamber/greenhouse Calibrate and maintain test stations and equipment Accurately obtain and record test data and prepare detailed reports on the results Comply with quality systems procedures, as applicable Maintain awareness of R D and manufacturing policies, safety concerns, and environmental conditions that can affect product quality Review, update, and write laboratory procedures Assist in the training of QC staff and Interns Other Duties Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to appropriate supervisor Perform general department maintenance Participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals Provide leadership to others through example and by sharing knowledge and skills Perform other duties as assigned REQIUREMENTS: Education A B.S. or M.S. in a Chemical or Biological discipline is required for this position. Experience Requires three years of experience working in a regulated laboratory or production setting. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and peers. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, length, and volume. Ability to calculate and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and statistical functions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism such as graphs, formulas and scientific equations. Intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics. Ability to plan and work multiple tasks and projects simultaneously under stringent deadlines. WORKING CONDITIONS: Must have manual dexterity sufficient to handle items and perceive attributes of objects, and be able to perform light physical, non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature. Must be able to function in an indoor office, laboratory, and production setting. Scientists are occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds, and are frequently exposed to air contamination such as disagreeable odors and may be exposed to toxic or caustic substances.
