R&D Laboratory Technician (Coatings & Paint)

Kelly Science is seeking a R&D Laboratory Technician for a growing company located in Tarrytown, NY.

Pay: $25-30/hour
Shift: Monday- Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
Employment Type: Full Time; Temp-to-Hire

Summary:

As an R&D Laboratory Technician, you will be supporting the development of innovative paint and coatings formulations. You will be working closely with chemists to formulate, test, and evaluate new and improved coatings for various applications.

Job Duties Include:

• Collaborate on developing innovative paint and coating formulations, including water-based, solvent-based, UV-curable, and specialty systems.
  
• Weigh, mix, grind, and prepare lab-scale batches by following formulation sheets or guidelines.
  
• Test new formulations for performance factors like scratch resistance, gloss, opacity, and more.
  
• Log observations, measurements, and results in lab notebooks and electronic databases.
  
• Operate and maintain R&D lab equipment such as dispersers, mixers, and drawdown applicators.
  
• Work with R&D Chemists to troubleshoot and enhance material performance.
  
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized lab environment per company protocols.
  
• Engage in raw material evaluations and test supplier samples.
  
• Assist in transitioning from lab to production, including experimental batch trials.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or a related scientific field preferred. High School Diploma required.
  
• 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory experience preferably within paints, coatings, adhesives or polymer materials.
  
• Familiarity with coating applications techniques, paint/coating raw materials, and handling chemicals.
