Summary of Job Duties: ***This position is for six months only.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible candidate for a position of Research Associate I for a short project of six months to join Dr. Mohammad Rahmans lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). The applicant will be responsible for performing standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture, general laboratory maintenance, and performing experiments as requested by the PI. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in cell culture, Western Blots, PCR, RT-PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work. Ability to utilize R or Python to analyze biological data sets would be beneficial but are not required. Candidates will need to be highly organized, flexible, and motivated. Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency are required. This position will focus on understanding how RNA splicing defects contribute to genetic defects and cancer. The lab will use both cell-based assays, animal models, genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics approaches.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor plus Five (5) years of research and/or research lab experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient with general biochemical and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals.
  • Willing to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Able to keep organized laboratory records and notes.
  • Good communication and computational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualification:

  • MS/PhD degree in Biological Science or related fields

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Performing research experiments, keeping experimental records
  • Performs research experiments including cell culture, migration assays, Western Blots, PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work. Keeps descriptive and accurate records of all experiments performed, data entry and analysis.
  • Training new laboratory personnel
  • These duties will include, (1) training of new employees and/or students in basic laboratory techniques (2) overseeing staff compliance with the University, State and Federal guidelines for the safe operation of a laboratory.
  • Performing related responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information:

Commensurate with education and experience.
