What We're Looking For
Baylor University is seeking an Associate Research Scientist to support the mission and vision of the University in the Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory at the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience within the College of Arts & Sciences by assisting the principal investigator in conducting and successful completion of a study to investigate a novel spiritual exercise involving a guided invocation for mystical experiences and examine the impact of Christian integration practices. The Research Scientist will complete tasks necessary for compliance with responsible conduct of research, IRB correspondence, and reporting requirements. In addition, the position requires accrual, intervention delivery, and data collection. In addition, the position requires leading project outputs including training manual and integration guide; scientific protocol, and video series on mystical experiences relevant to the project and how to integrate these experiences to enhance flourishing. Assisting the principal investigator and research team in manuscript and grant writing is also required.
This position is temporary with an anticipated end date of August 1, 2027.
A Doctoral Degree in Psychology is required.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
- Provide required support to the principle investigator in the conduct of all aspects of the research project, including: accrual; developing, keeping and filing of grant protocol and documents; data collection; data quality assurance; monitoring reports and assuring compliance with all institutional and funding organization requirements; data safety and monitoring; preparing and submitting research materials and reports; train staff in laboratory research; and documentation; invoice processing; annual reports; process requisitions; and assist with administrative tasks as determined by the principle investigator
- Development of research protocol, training manual, and delegation of authority log
- Serve as lead practitioner for delivery of guided invocation sessions for mystical and peak spiritual experiences involving hypnosis, guided meditation, and suggestions
- Design and conduct Christian integration protocol as well as non-Christian control sessions and materials
- Oversee accrual and data collection from baseline to endpoint. Construct and analyze database
- Assist faculty on planning, executing and reporting on funded research activities
- This will also involve leading collaborative working groups, and research team input
- Process and analyze results of experimental data
- Preparation of initial drafts of at least three manuscripts for academic publication based upon data, experiences, and relevant literature review or theory related to the study project
- Develop at the direction of the principal investigator a practitioner training manual providing instructions for facilitating mystical experiences without the use of psychedelics
- Develop and acceptable guide for Christians and Christian clergy providing information about effective integration of peak spiritual experiences
- At the direction of the principal investigator, upload the completed training manual and integration guide into an on-line format
- Assist the principal investigator and team with a monograph to be published to be used by appropriate practitioners and individuals wanting to facilitate a speak spiritual experience that supports a Christian worldview
- Write and film a series of short/educational-entertaining videos about mystical experiences, how people can facilitate their own, and how to integrate these experiences in their life to enhance flourishing
- Disseminate the videos at the direction of the principle investigator
- Conduct open community education sessions and develop all materials needed for a partnership with an organization or program for a Christian retreat-style meeting to provide the developed invocation for mystical and peak spiritual experience and Christian integration
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
- Ability to comply with university policies
