For our Seattle, WA laboratory, UCB is seeking to hire a lab-based Research Associate I to support our Patient Solutions research by performing basic laboratory activities within our Structural Biology group.

Applicants must reside in the Seattle area. UCB does not sponsor work authorization now or in the future.

About the role

Join a small, agile team in Seattle supporting global early drug discovery efforts. The Structural Biology group applies biophysical and near-atomic resolution techniques to characterize therapeutic molecules and targets across diverse modalities.

What you'll do

  • Develop proficiency in structural biology lab techniques
  • Independently set up and monitor protein crystallization experiments using robotics; harvest crystals for X-ray diffraction
  • Learn and maintain key research skills (e.g., X-ray generator operation, biophysical instrumentation)
  • Conduct experiments (e.g., X-ray diffraction, BLI, DSF, MST) with supervision
  • Assist in data preparation, general lab operations, and maintenance with adherence to documentation standards
  • Contribute to team tasks and projects aligned with corporate or group objectives

  • Collaborate closely with a global network of scientists and experienced team members in the Structural Biology group.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 1 year of industry experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in standard biology/biochemical lab techniques (e.g., through undergraduate research)
  • Commitment to lab safety and maintenance
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
