National Grid is hiring a Senior Environmental Scientist - Environmental Licensing & Permitting, New England.
This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to our Waltham, MA locations
Job Purpose
Be part of a team that manages environmental permitting for complex substation and transmission projects from the initial option selection through design, construction, and restoration. You'll be developing permit strategies, minimizing environmental impact and progressing permitting to meet project schedules for multiple projects at one time. During construction, you'll work to ensure compliance with permit conditions and applicable regulatory requirements No two days are the same and you'll be proactively supporting the environment in our day-to-day operations.
Key Accountabilities
Coordinating the overall environmental permitting process to obtain environmental permits in a timely manner to meet operations and construction schedules for new and existing facilities.
Coordinating with stakeholders across the business to develop and implement innovative environmental permitting strategies that maximize the opportunity for regulatory compliance and environmental protection while minimizing operating and capital costs.
Managing consultants and contractors in securing necessary permits and approvals as well as during project monitoring to support construction activities.
Track and participate in emerging laws and regulations discussions.
Communicating and defending the company's environmental reputation at hearings, public meetings, and with other key stakeholders.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, plant, soil science, or natural sciences or related field of study.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental licensing & permitting regulations to facilitate utility infrastructure projects in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
5-10 years of experience conducting and/or overseeing environmental permitting in New England, preferably related to utility operations.
Demonstrated record of professional respect and credibility among federal, state and local environmental regulatory, legislative, citizen group, media and other stakeholders.
Exhibit high personal standards of commitment and integrity.
Required valid driver's license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.
