Search Contact Email Position Summary The Chen Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a short-term, non-student hourly employee for the period of August through October 2025. The lab focuses on elucidating the regulatory mechanisms of HIV-1 protease precursor autoprocessing and novel antiviral discovery targeting this virus-specific step. The primary objective of this position is to characterize hit compounds identified through high-throughput screening (HTS) campaigns and to investigate HIV-1 resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) using a recently developed HIV-1 infectivity assay. Position Minimum Qualifications Applicants with a PhD degree and extensive experience in relevant experimental techniques are strongly preferred, as the position requires independent design and execution of research activities. Key responsibilities include: Production and isolation of viral particles from transfected mammalian cells treated with or without antiviral compounds High-throughput microscopic image acquisition, stitching, and quantification of target cells infected with replication-deficient viruses SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis of viral particles Effective reporting and presentation of research findings Preferred Qualifications Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff, postdocs, students, administration, and the public with tact, discretion, and appropriate judgment. Ability to organize time and work effectively to keep lab operations running smoothly, recognizing that this is a difficult skill to learn and will likely involve troubleshooting and feedback. Ability to keep accurate lab notebooks. Good organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Punctuality, dependability, and consistency.
