The Institute of Cannabis Research (ICR) is responsible for implementing cannabis research and dissemination of cannabis research results through initiatives including, but not limited to, hosting an international cannabis research conference, and the publication of its research journal, Journal of Cannabis Research. Its mission is to generate new knowledge of cannabis and its derivatives through research and education that improves lives and contributes to science, medicine, and society.

This is a full-time, one-year term-based position, with the possibility of annual renewal contingent upon performance and availability funding.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting ICRs mission to drive innovation in hemp science through applied and fundamental research. Key research areas include genome sequencing, bioinformatics data analysis, molecular marker development, cannabinoid extraction, and the investigation of therapeutic applications of cannabis.
Primary Duties
Lead and conduct applied and basic research on cannabis, focusing on genome sequencing, annotation, and computational analysis of genomic/transcriptomic data using bioinformatics tools in Linux-based environments. Participate in molecular marker development, cultivation experiments, and cannabinoid extraction. Mentor student researchers.
Engage appropriate scientific literature to generate testable hypotheses and design robust experiments. Effectively communicate experimental plans and rationale to the faculty and research team.
Participates in all aspects of creating manuscripts that will reflect the research that the laboratory group has conducted, and participates in the submission, editing, and publication process.
Ancillary Duties
Participate in outreach events, conference planning, training workshops, and other ICR programmatic efforts as needed.

- Ph.D. in Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or related discipline
- Proficiency with genomic databases, bioinformatics software, and command-line tools in Linux environments
- Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment
- Hands-on experience in hemp/cannabis cultivation, breeding, and molecular marker development
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with cannabinoid extraction methods and HPLC-based analysis
- Understanding of cannabis/hemp research regulations (state and federal)
- Peer-reviewed publications in cannabis genomics or hemp breeding
- Experience managing germplasm collections or breeding programs
