Job Description

Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Georgetown University Medical Center , seeks to prevent, treat and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community guided by the principle of cura personalis , care for the whole person. Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and Hackensack Meridian Health in northern New Jersey.

The Lab Technician will support ongoing multiple cancer epidemiology studies, overseeing the laboratory's day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and managing the research timeline. Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team spanning multiple institutions in processing bio samples, enabling molecular epidemiologic research. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Coordinating the acquisition and processing of biospecimens, tumor samples from patients (blood, saliva, FFPE blocks)

Retrieve laboratory kits for collections and tasks

Leading all aspects of sample processing, including but not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, quality assessment (QC), and preparation for downstream analyses.

Develop, optimize and validate novel molecular assays

Prepare grant reports, manuscripts, and preparations

Work Interactions

This individual will be part of the molecular epidemiology lab team that processes biospecimens from high-risk cancer patients, addressing cancer risk and survival, and contributing to Georgetown University's mission of health prevention and control. This individual will work with the project manager and report directly to the study principal investigator to carry out study duties. The individual will also communicate and work with other research assistants in sample processing and lab data management, and is expected to contribute to weekly and monthly research meetings.

Requirements and Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. Degree in Public Health/Biology with 0-2 years of experience

Track record of practical experience in a Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory with human tissue sample processing, extraction, QC

Familiarity with REDCap for lab data annotation, management, and integration with epigenetic data

Demonstration of exception organization, communication and management skills

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
