Research Scientist II
The AB Mauri/AB Biotek Strain Development team is looking for an enthusiastic Research Scientist to support the advancement of our Strain Development Program. The Research Scientist will be responsible for the daily execution of experimental plans to advance projects, including but not limited to experimental setup of microbiological cultures, metabolite analyses, strain genetics, molecular data reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, have an inclination for problem solving, understanding and developing methods for various types of instrumentation, and maintain flexibility to accommodate priorities under the supervision of a Lead Research Scientist.
DELIVERABLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Conduct laboratory experiments. This includes applying standard techniques and procedures as well as designing and testing new techniques and procedures where necessary.
- Perform regular microbiology tasks, such as buffer and sterile media preparation, microbial culture propagation, etc.
- Execute experimental plans: prepare, monitor, and perform qualitative and quantitative evaluations on microbiological cultures. Collect and analyze data using rigorous statistical tests.
- Setup, operate and develop methods for analytical and process instrumentation.
- Create technical reports and communicate results to project managers and team within specified timelines.
- Assist with general laboratory duties as needed.
Qualifications
FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITY
- Competency in one or more of the following areas: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology;
- Able to set-up, calibrate and troubleshoot Analytical instrumentation and other commonly used equipment;
- Can perform routine laboratory tasks such as: Preparing chemical solutions in accordance with laboratory protocols; Maintaining stock chemical ingredients; Perform standard assays and quantifications in specific area of expertise; Other techniques as required by the field of expertise;
- Able to design new techniques and procedures where necessary, or implement protocols from the literature or other labs;
- Demonstrates familiarity in specific area-relevant literature and current issues;
- Ability to maintain and update laboratory research records as required;
- Ability to create and update other documentation such as standard operating procedures and experimental protocols;
- Able to assist in the preparation of technical reports;
- Independently performs statistical data analysis and interpretation for the project;
- Able to use statistical software (JMP preferred);
- Contributes to create and implements experimental designs;
- Communicates well and works agreeably within the team;
- Complies with all HR policies and procedures;
- Complies with relevant employment laws;
- Complies with safety regulations within the lab and the Company;
- Keeps current in field by attending conferences, workshops, and courses to improve job performance;
- Able to perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with 4-5 years of relevant experience.
Desirable:
- Master's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
