Software Development Engineer III

Introduction to the team

Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

On the Flights team, we craft the foundation of global travel. We handle thousands of customer searches per second, while optimizing across dimensions of speed, relevance, price, and more. We make an end-to-end impact, from building highly-optimized back-end supplier connections, to designing flexible query APIs for our UI and customers. Our team encourages an agile, collaborative, and inclusive environment, where everyone's voice is heard. We are looking for hardworking, innovative engineers to help us expand our platform capabilities, grow our connections to suppliers, and deliver high-impact customer-facing functionality.

In this role, you will:

• Design and build efficient, flexible, and robust applications & APIs

• Take ownership of substantially large projects, guide other contributors, and collaborate across teams with stakeholders and technology peers

• Ensure visibility into functional and operational performance of your applications, through precise logging and monitoring

• Provide application support, debugging, and modern maintenance

• Embrace and advocate for software standards and best practices

• Review others' technology solutions and mentor junior engineers

Experience and qualifications

• BS or MS degree in computer science or related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience

• 5+ years of leading or contributing to high-throughput, back-end or full-stack software development projects within a large architecture

• Proficiency in software design principles relating to OOP, API design, microservices, caching, NoSQL datastores

• Experience handling production support, debugging, logging, monitoring, and automated testing

• Background in CI/CD, tools such as Spinnaker and Jenkins, and AWS technologies

• History of using Java, Kotlin, Spring, JSON, Protobuf, XML, Redis, Cassandra, Docker, Kubernetes, Splunk, Datadog

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $128,000.00 to $179,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
