About the Role The Doudna Lab at the Gladstone Institutes is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate (RA) with expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and drug delivery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of gene editing and therapeutic development. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in wet lab molecular biology and tissue culture techniques, combined with a rigorous approach to experimental design, execution, and analysis. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency, but also strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, as you will work closely with colleagues across multiple labs at Gladstone and UCSF. This position is particularly well-suited for individuals considering graduate or professional school in the future and who wish to gain substantial research experience in a highly interdisciplinary environment. What you will do: Design, perform, and analyze experiments to develop novel therapeutics for cancer and T-cell-related diseases using innovative CRISPR enzymes. Collaborate with multiple research groups across UCSF and Gladstone Institutes to design, implement, and optimize in vitro and in vivo experiments. Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records in accordance with lab best practices. Contribute to troubleshooting, protocol development, and scientific discussions. Assist with the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications as needed. What you will need: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in biological sciences or associate degree with 2+ years of relevant research experience. At least 1 year of hands-on wet lab experience (academic or industry). Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology and tissue culture techniques. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail in both experimental execution and record-keeping. Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. What is preferred: Prior experience with CRISPR gene editing technologies. Experience with animal handling or in vivo models. Familiarity with drug delivery systems or therapeutic development workflows.
