Position Information

Classification Title Post-Doctoral Associate AD FLSA Exempt UGA Job Code FTE 1.0 Minimum Qualifications Position Summary

A rapidly expanding neuroscience lab at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research, the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and the Department of Biomedical Sciences, is seeking motivated candidates for one postdoctoral scientist position. This position is available immediately to contribute to multiple NIH-funded projects exploring glia-neuron interactions, neuroinflammation, lipid dysregulation, and their role in mediating the effects of genetic and environmental risk factors for Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and toxic or traumatic brain injury on olfactory function in transgenic mouse models. The ultimate goal is to disclose the neurobiological mechanisms underlying functional processes in the brain or pathogenesis in various neurological disorders.

These dynamic projects utilize cutting-edge technologies such as cell and molecular neurobiology, neurobiochemistry, and single cell or nuclear RNA sequencing approaches will be employed to assess neuroinflammation or lipidomic dysregulation in the brain under neurodegenerative, traumatic, or environmental toxic conditions. In addition, optogenetics, integrated with in vitro and in vivo neurophysiology, chemogenetics, and in vivo calcium imaging in behaving animals, alongside behavioral assays have been routinely applied to elucidate functional and pathological mechanisms in health and neurological diseases. We also leverage other state-of-the-art methodologies such as neuroanatomical tracing to map neural connections in whole brain context by imaging with advanced light-sheet microscopy, or immunohistochemistry with confocal microscopy to examine neural circuitry organization and dysfunctions within the central nervous system.
