Job Summary
Job Description
The Theodorescu Lab within the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in cancer immunology and the tumor microenvironment (TME). This project will be characterizing the tumor microenvironment of bladder cancer, with emphasis on mechanisms of immune evasion orchestrated by tumor cells while also identifying immune system agonists or antagonists that modulate tumor behavior in vivo. To dissect cancer-specific vulnerabilities, we will combine techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, and Crispr/Cas9 technologies, functional genomic approaches (loss of function/synthetic lethal), next generation sequencing including single cell RNA sequencing, together with the use of innovative mouse models we have developed. Examples of the type of work that will be undertaken can be seen by our papers by Abdel-Hafiz (Nature. 2023 Jul;619(7970):624-631), Gouin (Nature Commun. 2021; 12;12(1)), Agarwal (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2021 Sep 21;118(38):e2102 423118) and Tu (Science Adv. 2019; 20;5(2)). Our final goal is to identify novel biomarkers and interventions for cancer that will improve patient outcomes.
This individual would join our exciting cancer research group. The successful candidate will be a driven, creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for helping to discover fundamental cancer biology mechanisms that have potential clinical impact and thus can be moved eventually towards a clinical setting. We employ many different in vitro and in vivo approaches and seek individuals with a strong background in cell and molecular immunology.
Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
