Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As a Scientist, Analytical Ops, you will

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for physical and chemical characterization of new chemical entities using techniques including NMR, HRMS, FTIR, and XRPD, and other specialized techniques to support the qualification of reference materials

  • Independently plan, execute, and troubleshoot experiments that support reference material qualification activities

  • Review testing data and results to ensure compliance to appropriate test methods, specifications, and protocols. Recognize anomalous and inconsistent results and interprets outcomes

  • Provide guidance to junior team members on data-driven experimental design and data interpretation and assist in troubleshooting of instrumentation and test methods

  • Recommend alternatives, researches new methods and techniques, and proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems

  • Adhere to and incorporate GMP, GDP, and GLP principles in daily tasks and approach to work and maintains laboratory safety and ALCOA++ at all times

  • Work with Quality Assurance to achieve scientifically sound and data-based solutions to resolve challenging problems in a compliant manner

  • Keep abreast of changes in the pharmaceutical compendia and guidelines (e.g., USP, JP, EP, ICH)

  • Participate in group meetings, present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work

  • Participate in departmental activities and improvements

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with limited to no industry experience OR

  • BS degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry with 6+ years of industry experience OR

  • MS degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry with 4+ years of industry experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Strongest consideration will be given to candidates with proficiency or experience with one or more of the following techniques: solution state nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, and/or solid state characterization (FTIR, XRPD, DSC/TGA, etc.)

  • Flexibility to support changes in project priorities and be able to adapt to fast paced working environment

The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
