The Senior Research Associate position, under supervision will be responsible for managing and completing an array of natural resources research projects across a variety of funding sources (state, federal, private, etc.).
Responsibilities:
-Plan, coordinate, and execute field surveys as well as compile, analyze, and summarize results into scientific and clientele-oriented publications.
-Provide mentorship opportunities with undergraduate and graduate students involved in research projects, along with the opportunity to assist in instructing university level range and botany courses.
-Seasonally frequent travel to field sites that are in-state and out of state will be required
-Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments in support of various wildlife and plant research projects
-Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data and methods
-Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results
-Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and clientele-oriented publications.
-Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects.
-Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field staff involved in research.
-Assist in the preparation of and help conduct university-level botany/range lectures and labs
-Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
-Bachelors degree in relevant field (Wildlife Sciences, Rangeland Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, etc.)
-Four years of related professional experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Masters degree in relevant field (Wildlife Sciences, Rangeland Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, etc.)
-Experience with plant and animal surveys in desert and grassland ecosystems.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, technical, and field equipment
-Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to curate and manage data, perform statistical analyses, present data, and perform other computer related tasks.
-Proficient with Microsoft Office
-Ability to exercise good judgement
-Ability to work independently or collaboratively
-Ability to manage a team.
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Good written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of statistical programs (R, JMP, SAS, etc.)
-Knowledge and skills in GIS applications and basic geospatial analysis skills (ArcGIS, QGIS, R)
-Knowledge of bioacoustics data analysis software (Kaleidoscope, R, etc.)
-Ability to conduct field surveys in adverse weather conditions for extended times
