Duties: Lead research projects and serve as a technical expert in the field of Structures and Materials. Develop and work within a technical network of suppliers, peers and universities to scan new technologies for potential viability and further development. Implement, maintain, and monitor the use of design standards and regulatory requirement compliance. Complete stress analysis using modeling software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Develop validation programs that evaluate new technologies. Maintain a strong focus on quality, cost, and overall customer value. Exhibit project leadership skills with designers, sustaining engineers, and other key team members to assure that engineering documents are adequate for a successful launch. Serve as a subject matter expert in structures and related fields. Actively participate with manufacturing and operations in early builds to assure that key specifications for successful assembly are included in the design. Act as a key point of feedback for engineering processes and standards to assure that world-class warranty levels are achieved, including developing and maintaining standards for design. Oversee and review testing protocols to ensure that technologies are properly validated. Telecommuting permitted up to one day per week. Domestic travel required up to 10%.
Requirements: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and two (2) years of work experience in the job offered or in an Advanced Development Engineer - Structures related occupation.
Position requires two (2) years of experience in the following:
Experience applying DFMA (Design For Manufacturing and Assembly) principles in a heavy manufacturing environment;
Working with structural materials;
Utilizing Finite Element Analysis;
Applying structured method to solve complex design problems;
Completing Experimental Stress Analysis in combination with Finite Element Analysis;
Designing mining equipment, heavy construction equipment, robotics, advanced hydraulics, or control systems;
Utilizing Pro-E or Solid Works; and
Conducting research in structures and materials.
Telecommuting permitted up to one day per week. Domestic travel required up to 10%.
