The Role -
Amphenol Aerospace is seeking a Materials Engineer to work out itsstate-of-the-art facility in Sidney, NY.
The Materials Engineer performs polymer materials activities, selections, andinterpretations related to technical design and manufacturing support forengineering materials and processes. Performs laboratory projects on a servicebasis to design engineering, manufacturing engineering, production, procurement,and quality control. Activities include characterization, specification, andapproval of materials and processes to support/expand product lines inaccordance with Amphenol's strategic plans.
The key responsibilities of the Materials Engineer include, but are notlimited to:
Review design selections of materials to ensure compliance with internal andexternal specificationsPrepare internal material specifications such as raw materialspecifications, process techniques, and customer requirementsPerform and document failure analysis on both in plant failures and returnedparts from the customersProvide expertise in polymer-based materials and their specifications - AMS,ASTM, customer specifications, and quality system AS9100Arrange for outside testing and work with the source oninterpretation\dissemination of the final reportsMaintain the materials labResearch and recommend new technology and materials to continue to improveAmphenol's leading edge in the connector businessWork with other departments and customers in a service role to help solvematerial related problemsIdentify and help bring on-line new suppliers such as elastomer, potting andbonding, and polymer sources

The key skills and qualities of a Materials Engineer at Amphenol Aerospace:
Minimum 4 year degree in engineering or materials science (polymer corecurriculum) or other related scientific field based on specific experienceStrong, diversified knowledge of materials, processes, and relevantspecifications to support military/aerospace/industrial connectors is requiredAbility to maintain working knowledge and operations of laboratorytechniques to support elastomers, injection molding, surface chemistry, andpolymeric processesFamiliarity and knowledge of military specs, AMS/ASTM specs, and materialspecs related to the electrical connector industryFamiliarity with analytical techniques for material interrogation, FTIR,DSC, and various other techniquesWorking knowledge of computers for generation of reports and datacollection/analysis are requiredProficiency in Microsoft OfficeStrong written and verbal communications skillsAbility to work in a fast paced environment with attention to detailFrequent periods of computer usage, sitting, standing and walking
